Wedding Stationery: Where to Start

Your guide to beginning the beautiful journey of designing your dream wedding paper goods

When you’re newly engaged, planning your big day is full of excitement—but also a lot of decisions. One of the most personal (and most fun!) parts of wedding planning is choosing your wedding stationery. Your invitations are the first glimpse your guests will have into the look, feel, and vibe of your day—so where do you begin?

Here’s your step-by-step guide to getting started with wedding stationery.

🖋 1. Think About Your Wedding Style

Before you start pinning your dream invitations, take a moment to consider your overall wedding vision.

Is your day classic and elegant, or modern and minimal?

Are you going for romantic garden vibes, or a bold and colourful celebration?

Your stationery should reflect the feel of your day and give your guests a hint of what’s to come.

TIP: Create a Pinterest board with colours, flowers, dresses, and venues you love—this will help shape your stationery style too.

🕊 2. Decide What You Need

Not all weddings need the same stationery, so it’s helpful to make a list of what you think you’ll need. For wedding invitations -

The basics include:

Save the Dates

Invitations

RSVP cards (or digital RSVP link)

Information cards (for details like travel, dress code, gifts)

Extras might include:

Envelope liners

Wax seals or belly bands

      Foiling

      Venue illustration

If you’re unsure, don’t worry - I can help guide you.

💌 3. Set Your Budget

Stationery can range from simple and elegant to fully custom and luxurious, with finishes like foil or venue illustrations.

It’s important to be honest about your budget so I can suggest the best options within it, without compromising on style or impact.

4. Know Your Timeline

Here’s a general guide to keep in mind:

Save the Dates: 8–12 months before the wedding

Invitations: 4–6 months before

On-the-day stationery: Best to order 6–8 weeks before

If you’re working with a designer (like me!), it’s best to get in touch early—even if you don’t have all the details yet. It gives us plenty of time to craft something bespoke and beautiful, stress-free.

🌿 5. Gather Inspiration

Look through Instagram, Pinterest, and your favourite wedding blogs.

Save designs you love—whether it’s the fonts, colour palette, paper texture, or layout. This will help your me get a sense of your style and preferences.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding stationery sets the tone for your day—it’s more than just paper; it’s your first impression.

Whether you’re dreaming of hand-drawn venue illustrations, foiled details, or soft romantic tones, I’m here to help bring it all to life beautifully and professionally.
